Mindi is an exotic tropical hardwood that is sustainable and renewable. Often called “Indonesian Oak” because it has some grain similarity to American Oak, Mindi’s open grain is much more interesting and its coloring more pleasing. It is dense and extremely durable, yet can be worked and stained beautifully. Mindi is not as well known as Mahogany because it wasn’t available at the advent of the Indonesian furniture industry. Unlike Mahogany, the supply of quality wood and deforestation are not issues as Mindi is grown extensively and matures quickly. Private Island’s creative designs and exacting finishes are perfectly accepted by the wood, resulting in just the right look and feel for tropical furniture – captured by the Island Villa collection.
